Biography Recorded Shortly Before End of Life:
A few days before being sworn into the Navy Stephen told his dad of his intent to do so. Although his father was a retired army officer, he supported Stephen's decision. He was assigned to basic training AI, followed by VTAS intermediate weapons maintenance, performing duties at sea in the Pacific Ocean. Upon return to San Diego he was sent to his final assignment with Fighter Squadron Twenty-One at NAS Miramar, San Diego.
While at sea he was provided an opportunity to learn maintenance of blood and cleaning equipment. Subsequent to his discharge he became infected and his life ended when he learned more about blood cleaning at the civilian facility. It may have been at that time he became infected from a failed liver transplant. Prior to his passing he told his parents of the help he was able to offer through providing medical equipment sterilization.
